Taking a Shallow Dip Through the Boob Tube
I don’t really watch the news, not least because I don’t have any kind of cable media coming into this place. The news is less important anyways than how it is incorporated. This has been true all along, but the last four years have made it painfully obvious. By watching the coverage, I catch the highlights that are driving attention spans, and can explore my curiosities from there.
This was the original screenshot I picked up from someone’s twitter. I can’t vouch for its authenticity since I didn’t watch and I’m not about to seek out Hannity footage. But it looks legit. The graphic looks professionally produced, the chyron is timely, and poor Sean looks like he needs a hug.
Now, the funny thing is, just a few hours earlier on that same air, a much smarter man than Sean Fucking Hannity described the same “meaningless” speech as one of the greatest inaugurals he’d ever heard. (Didn’t watch the inauguration, was busy.) Conveniently enough, another helpful twit had a link to a clip of the Wallace bit, at which point I had everything I needed to illustrate the point that Hannity was actually trying to make:
See, Hannity’s calling Wallace out, right there on television. The least he could do is be a man and do it to Chris’s face. So here.
