Today: Xmas cards.

My car is essentially out of commission until i can secure a replacement exhaust part, a process that (turns out) is much more difficult than you would expect.

While I’d rather NOT be losing all my sick time from work to a week’s worth of absences so far, a break is not unappreciated. I’m trying to actually get shit done.

Some to-do’s are well out of reach, just for convenience. I can’t justify big purchases of a legit TV or a cool camera when my living arrangements or rent requirements are subject to change at a moment’s notice. Replacing the 5yo laptop, the 8yo desktop, and the genuinely shitty 3 month-old Nokia however, those could be justified. There’s work I want to do, videography I want to learn, projects to tackle and careers to seek, all of which require a solid infrastructure.

Also it’s fun to buy cool new stuff, and when you build your own computers it means plenty of cool stuff to shop for.

Which leads into my generally limited means to begin with. Practicality rules as much because of need as of a discomfort with luxury. I know there has to be an entire list of genuine priorities greater than a kick-ass 65″ OLED, so I don’t feel comfortable with the purchase. Not until I can get the rest of my lifestyle caught up a bit.

Did I mention that car repair? Stuff costs.

Anyway, the word is that time still marches on. There’s another moving day coming up in a few weeks so today I’m trying to clear out as much non-moving details as possible. I’ve already set aside everything that won’t make the move, what wasn’t tossed is going up on ebay in a few hours. Christmas cards, those will get sent out today.

I picked up an Adobe CC subscription, I want to start learning Lightroom and (actual) Photoshop. But diving into that first requires some cleanup, my galleries have become split between several locations. Not an urgent task, but one that will be in the background for a while. Needs to happen because I don’t want the cost to go to waste, and it supports the work I’m doing on this site (another ongoing background project), but there’s a few hundred pics from a few years to sort through.

Oh, and a new job. gotta do that too. Need to take some big steps there. NEED. I’m leaning more and more towards prioritizing something in political communications. That’s feeling like it would be a good fit. It also means more, more, more practice.
