There was a guy in the mid-80’s. His wife had died after their insurance had denied some coverage.
He drove out to one of those arcing freeway interchanges in Los Angeles and blocked off traffic with his pickup truck. As the news helicopters started to arrive, he rolled out a sheet or banner with some condemnation of the HMO involved. With the cameras still zoomed in, he pulled a shotgun out of his truck and blew his own head off on live TV.
He’s the reason why there’s a delay on live news broadcasts. So a producer can cut the feed before we see bad news.
But nobody remembers that guy. Or his wife. Or whichever HMO screwed them.
