Election 2024: still a worse love story than ‘Twilight’.

For reference: the hopefully final (for now) word on the Ten Commandments in Louisiana classrooms

These religious pushes – still the Bible thing left in Oklahoma – are notable for being conservative policy actions aimed *not* at minorities, but at minor faiths. Muslims. Jews. Hindu. And this is not the first time the Commandments have been proposed for classroom walls. What’s notable – beyond how much closer to real these things keep getting – is how few people seem to care that institutional hate speech and cultural controls are coming their way. There are the Arab Americans who voted for change (sigh), and the Jewish Americans who essentially voted against Judaism at the request of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Which is a weird needle to thread. Israel’s support was for Trump, and the freer hand he will likely give them in their war against Islam. Trump’s support is for the very fine people marching swastikas through town squares. There is a concerning irony to his ability to bring Jews and Nazis under the same big tent- he’s a uniter AND a divider. I’m distracting myself though.

There’s a semantic conflation between non-secular states, and the faith they serve (lol) that becomes problematic when people start to disagree. Having America’s backing may have discouraged Israel’s being overrun on any number of occasions. Thus, our uncompromising support of the Jewish people has quite possibly been consequential for their ability to thrive as they have. And, our uncompromising support of the Jewish state has directly contributed to the butchering of Palestinian children.

Next, on ‘Sick Sad World’- it’s possible for both of those of those truths to be 100% accurate.

There’s no reason why it needs to be though. It’s only our inability to tackle nuance and our refusal to limit support to defensive weapons systems. There’s a stink of paternalism in the air. American paternalism, so certain that Israel’s survival depends on our bombs. Israeli paternalism, rounding Palestinians into managed reservations, because they obviously can’t govern themselves in a modern fashion. Would we have the nerve for a legitimate conversation about genocide if Israel’s tactics didn’t so closely match our own?

Maybe they’ll let the Palestinians operate a few casinos. That’ll make everything better, just a short few hundred years from now.

I understand voters wanting change. I marvel at voters who think Trump 2 will be a good change. His folks are the ones who want the Commandments on the wall. They’re the ones marching swastikas around Columbus. They’re the ones who’ve made the entire subject one of hypothetical rhetoric; they’re the one’s who’ve taken ‘doing the right thing’ off the table. So there’s really not much point in trying to figure that out anymore. This is all just me twiddling my thumbs in writing. Israeli borders will be expanded and settlements will be made permanent, Palestinians will be either killed or curbed. Benjamin Netanyahu will celebrate the free hand offered to him against the marauding Browns by that sucker in the White House, and Donald Trump will celebrate the free labor against the dirty Browns provided by that stooge in Jerusalem.
